“I Never Thought I’d Be Back on a Trampoline at 66 — But Here I Am.”
Lourda Everard- BackAware Member
When my granddaughter asked me to jump on the trampoline with her, my first instinct was to laugh.
“Granny doesn’t do trampolines,” I joked.
But later that evening, it stayed with me.
Not because I was sad — but because a small part of me wanted to say yes.
I didn’t feel old.
I just didn’t feel strong.
Wanting to feel capable again
Like many women in their 60s, I had gradually become more careful.
I avoided quick movements.
I hesitated before lifting.
I second-guessed my balance.
Nothing dramatic had happened — I just didn’t fully trust my body anymore.
I wasn’t in pain.
I just didn’t feel confident.
That’s when I was introduced to Pilates and strength training with BackAware.
At first, I wasn’t looking to “train.”
I simply wanted to feel steady, strong, and capable again — especially as a grandmother.
Learning how to move — not push
What surprised me most was how gentle it was.
The Pilates sessions focused on:
· Core strength
· Hip stability
· Balance
· Control
Not fast.
Not intimidating.
Just smart movement.
And then there was the BackAware Belt.
The belt gives gentle feedback when your posture changes — helping you understand how your body is moving in real time.
For the first time, I wasn’t guessing if I was doing exercises correctly.
I could feel it.
It was like having a coach there with me for every Pilates session.

Confidence to train at home
One of the biggest changes came when I started exercising at home.
Before, I was always unsure:
· Am I doing this right?
· Am I protecting my spine?
· Should I be feeling this here?
With the BackAware Belt on, that worry faded.
The feedback gave me reassurance.
It helped me trust myself again.
I didn’t need mirrors.
I didn’t need someone watching me.
I had confidence.
The day everything clicked

A few months later, my granddaughter asked again.
“Granny, will you jump with me?”
This time, I didn’t hesitate.
I stepped onto the trampoline.
Held her hands.
And jumped.
Not high.
Not wildly.
But happily.
We laughed.
We bounced.
We made memories.
And in that moment, I realised something important:
Strength isn’t about doing extreme things.
It’s about being able to say yes.
Strong for the moments that matter
Pilates and strength training didn’t just change how my body feels.
It changed how I see myself.
I feel steadier.
More confident.
More present.
And thanks to the BackAware Belt, I now feel comfortable continuing my exercises at home — knowing I’m moving well and safely.
I’m not training to be younger.
I’m training to be a grandmother who can join in.
Because the best moments don’t ask if you’re ready.
They just happen.
And now — I am.
